Aggies Run-Rule Tigers Twice in Day One Double Header

GOODWELL, Okla. - The Oklahoma Panhandle State softball run-ruled Central Christian twice on day one of the two-day series.

Both teams would take advantage of the elements in the first game of the day. Combining for eight home runs in the game. However, the Aggies would stay consistent with their approach at the plate and in the circle to complete the 16-7 run rule.

Game two would play all in the favor of the Aggies. Despite the windy day, the Tigers would be unable to manage a single run in the contest. The Aggies, however, would take full advantage of the elements once again and run-rule the Tigers for the second straight game, 9-0.

Game 1

The Aggies rode a seven-game win streak heading into the series opener against the Central Christian Tigers. Yet, they did not drag their feet against the Tigers in game one.

Junior pitcher Sarah Conley would toss another complete-game win for the Aggies. Braving the wind for five innings while allowing seven runs on seven hits. Also, a milestone game for Conley as she has now eclipsed 200 career strikeouts as an Aggie with nine strikeouts in the game.

The Panhandle State offense is one that is not only one of the top offenses in the country but also the nation. With the Tigers getting out to an early two to nothing lead in the first the Aggies needed to respond in the bottom half of the inning. Kayli Grove got the Aggies on the board with an RBI single to score Brielee Daniell. Kaitlyn Lord would tie it up with a ground-rule-double to centerfield.

After an explosive first inning for the Tigers, Conley would dial in and not allow a run for the next four innings. Giving the Aggies the chance to not only take the lead but extend their lead. Tatum Trester and Phylzan "Yaya" Jones would give the Aggies the lead with back-to-back solo home runs in the second inning. Panhandle State went on to score five more in the inning off of Saur's, Grove's, and Trester's singles. Extending the Aggie lead to 9-2.

Grove would continue her tear at the plate with a bases-loaded single in the third to add another for the Aggies. With the bases loaded Kaitlyn Lord would clear the pond with a grand slam to put the Aggies up 14-2 heading into the fourth inning. Kinzie Jones got in on the long-ball action with a two-run home run herself in the fourth. With the run rule in place, the Aggies halted the late-game push from the Tigers and won, 16-7.

Game 2

The second game of the series saw little to no offensive production from the Tigers due to stellar Aggie pitching and defense. The powerhouse offense stuck to its roots and once again run-ruled the Tigers.

Sophomore Kenley Yocom would toss her third shutout win in game two. Tossing all five for the Aggies and allowed only four hits in the contest.

The Aggie bats would pick up right where they left off in game one. Scoring four in the first inning thanks to a Kaitlyn Lord single, Kinzie Monroe fielder's choice, and a Tatum Trester single.

Looking to end the game early, Panhandle State would add another two runs in the bottom of the third when Tatum Trester tripled to right-center field to bring home Haley Roman and Kayli Grove. Jones and Grove would secure the victory in the bottom of the fourth and bring around two more runs. Jones singled to bring home Daniell and Grove tripled and scored on a throwing error.

Panhandle State softball returns to Jim Quimby Field Wednesday, April 20th for another double-header starting at 12 PM.
