Aggies Fall to #2 OCU

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Panhandle State softball fell in both games of the doubleheader against the #2 Oklahoma City Stars.

After an upset win earlier in the season the Aggies looked to use some of their momentum to upset them once again. Game one of the doubleheader would go down to the wire with the Stars squeaking out a 5-4 win over the Aggies.

Things would not play out so close in game two as the Stars got ahead early and kept it that way. The Aggies were unable to match the powerhouse offense and pitching that the Stars had to offer in the series finale.

Game 1

Riding an eleven-game win streak the Aggies had some much-needed momentum to face the number two team in the nation.

Sophomore Kenley Yocom would toss a complete game for the Aggies. Keeping the Stars under their season average of seven runs a game. She would allow five runs on ten hits through six innings of work.

The Aggies would have a rough first time through the lineup against the Stars. Trailing OCU early in the contest. Senior shortstop Kinzie Jones would create some momentum for the Aggies in the top of the third with a bases-clearing double to bring the Aggies within one of the Stars.

Oklahoma City answered the Aggie's half of the inning with a run of their own in the bottom of the third. The Panhandle State offense would stagnate till the top of the fifth. Left fielder Kayli Grove closed the gap for the Aggies with an RBI double to score Jones. Unable to muster any more base runners in the final two innings, the Aggies would lose game one 5-4.

Game 2

The Aggies would fall in the series finale against the Stars.

Sarah Conley would throw all five innings for the Aggies before the Stars would run-rule the Aggies in the bottom of the sixth inning.

After scraping by with a narrow win in game one, the Stars came out in game two ready to score. Scoring in all but two innings. Caitley Adams and Phylzan "Yaya" Jones provided the only two runs of the game for the Aggies. Adams scored Kaitlyn Lord with a single to center field in the second inning and Jones hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning.

The Aggies' incessant pop-ups and weak contact groundouts did not give them any sort of chance to capitalize on the Stars' errors.

Panhandle State softball begins their final series of the regular season Saturday, April 23rd against the Southwestern Christian Eagles at 1 PM.
