Panhandle State Sweeps Eagles

BETHANY, Okla. - The Oklahoma Panhandle State softball team defeated the Southwestern Christian University Eagles in the first two games of the four-game series.

The Eagles would take the Aggies down to the wire in the first game of the doubleheader but the Panhandle defense would be a brick wall when it mattered most.

Panhandle State would bounce back in game two to overwhelm the Eagle pitching. They Collected double-digit hits for the eighth time in their last ten games and earned the win.

Game 1

Heading into their last conference series of the year, the Panhandle State Aggies have set their sights on a third-place finish in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Victories over the Eagles in the four-game series would solidify their position in the rankings.

Sarah Conley would designate the start for the Aggies as she tossed the seventeenth complete game of the season. The Eagles would test Conley's conditioning late in the contest trailing by one with two runners in scoring position. However, Conley would minimize the damage and secure the Aggie win, striking out seven in her seven innings of work.

While Conley kept the Eagles from getting on the base paths so was the Eagles' pitching. The Aggies managed only five hits in game one, two of which came from freshman second baseman Haley Saur. Saur brought around the first run of the game with a squeeze bunt in the top of the third. Phylzan "Yaya" Jones would bring another run across for the Aggies in the top of the fourth with a double.

The Eagles looked to mount a comeback in the bottom half of the seventh after cutting the Aggie lead in half due to an error followed by a double. However, Conley would put the game on her shoulders and retire the next two Eagle batters to end the game.

Game 2

The Aggies would make the adjustment for the second game of the day and hand the Eagles an 11-4 loss.

Kenley Yocom tossed the complete game for the Aggies and earned her tenth win of the season. Allowing only two hits while striking out seven batters.

The Aggie offense returned to form after a couple of hard days at the plate. Totaling more runs in game two than in their previous three games combined. Panhandle State would score in all but one inning in the win.

Tatum Trester got the Aggies on the board first with a two-RBI double to score both Brielee Daniell and Haley Saur. Caitley Adams would score herself in the top of the third after drawing a walk and later stealing home.

Panhandle State would heat up at the plate as Grove and Jones had extra-base hits. Leading to a three-run inning for the Aggies. Jones would come up big for the Aggies once again with a two-RBI single in the fourth to extend the Aggie lead to 8-0.

Chloe Browning would her first hit of the contest in the top of the sixth in the form of an RBI double to center field to score Jones. The Eagles would finally be able to stop the offensive onslaught by the Aggies but not before Kinzie Jones and Tatum Trester scratched two more for the Aggies with a triple and sac fly.

Southwestern Christian would attempt a last chance effort to grab a win but would be unsuccessful as Yocom closed out the game. Panhandle State softball heads back to Jim Quimby Field Friday, April 29th for their last doubleheader of the season. Once again taking on the Southwestern Christian Eagles on Senior Day.
