Aggies Fall to #4 Stars

GOODWELL, Okla. - The Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggie baseball team dropped their doubleheader to the #4 Oklahoma City Stars.

It always takes a lot of work and preparation to compete against a nationally ranked team, especially a top-five team. Head Coach Shawn Joy is "proud of the way we fought in game 2, looking forward to senior day tomorrow."

Game 1

The series opener against the Stars saw the Aggies get down early and be unable to mount any sort of momentum in the contest.

Juan Javier would get the start for the Aggies but would see an early exit after sustaining an injury in his single inning of work. Colton Anderson would be the first out of the pen. Allowing two earned runs during his two and a third innings of work.

Panhandle State would make extensive use of their bullpen for the remaining four innings of play. Corbin Yandell, Brandon Rodriguez, Corbin Bailey, and Carl McKenzie would each see the mound in game one.

The Aggie offense struggled against the powerhouse that is the Oklahoma City Stars pitching staff. Managing only three hits in the game and left multiple runners on base in the loss.

Game 2

The second game of the day kicked off like a continuation of game one, with the Stars taking an early lead. Yet, the Aggies gave themselves a chance by putting the ball in play and forcing the Stars to get them out.

Braeden Lejarraga earned the start and loss in game two. Tossing six strong innings while striking out seven to give his offense a chance. Zeke Dougan would replace Lejarraga in the seventh to close out the top of the seventh.

Despite the Aggies trailing three to nothing early, they stuck their foot in the ground and battled for every base runner. Shortstop Luis Dermas led the way for the offense, going two for three in the game. Jonathan Applebury, Dylan Hughs, and Payton Brown would also record a hit in the game.

Panhandle State Baseball returns to the field for Senior Day against the Stars Saturday, April 30th at 12 PM. Senior Day activities will be held before the game.
