Late inning struggles sink Aggies

GOODWELL, Okla. - Panhandle State baseball dropped game three of the series against the University of Science & Arts Drovers 6-4.

Late game errors by the Aggies extended the inning for the Drovers and would directly lead to two additional runs. With a two-run lead heading into the bottom of the ninth, the game was for the Drovers to lose. Unable to put the ball in play off the Drover closer the Aggies lose in the series finale.

A hard fought day for the Aggies. "We fought hard and played well. This is how we should expect to play every game"

RHP Juan Javier would notch the start against the Drovers. Javier would last longer than all previous Aggie pitchers on the weekend. Throwing five strong innings while keeping the Drovers off the basepaths. Allowing only three earned runs on six hits in his outing.

Colton Anderson would make his second appearance of the series in the sixth inning. Keeping the Drovers off-balance with his offspeed while striking out two. Anderson would be chased in the eight after two Aggie errors led to the Drovers adding two more runs to their total to take the lead 6-4. Tate Nebhut would be the next man up and would finish the game for the Aggies. Allowing only a single hit in his one and a third innings of work.

Looking to avoid a sweep the Aggie bats adjusted their approach at the plate for game three. While they outhit themselves from the previous two games of the series, the Aggie bats would fall short once again.

The Drovers would find the scoreboard first for the third straight contest. Taking a four to nothing leading into the bottom of the sixth. Senior first baseman Jonathan Applebury would lead the charge for the Aggies with a leadoff single. Manrique Mora and Landon Finke would load the bases after a defensive miscommunication by the Drovers and a walk. Right fielder Jhonn Cabrera would bring around the first run of the day for the Aggies after being hit by a pitch. The Aggies would scratch three more runs in the inning to tie it up off a balk, a Zach Madrigal single, and a Luis Dermas fielder's choice.

The next two innings would be relatively quiet for both teams as both would be unable to manage many baserunners. However, the Drovers would capitalize off of two errors in the top of the eighth to take the lead 6-4. The momentum would swing largely in the favor of the Drovers and the Aggies would be unable to rebound. Dropping the series finale 6-4.

Aggie baseball hosts the Wayland Baptist Pioneers for the second straight home series starting Friday, April 15th at 1 PM at Carroll Gribble Field.
