GOODWELL, Okla. - The third-annual Red Carpet Awards were held on Tuesday, May 3rd, in Hughes Strong Hall and hosted by Derek Barton, the "voice of the Aggies. Each year this event is planned and executed by members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) to celebrate the achievements of individual student-athletes and entire programs. Student-athletes, coaches, and administrators were in attendance to enjoy refreshments and snacks. A photoshoot was held in the lobby during the social hour leading up to and following the award show. Following the welcoming to the awards night, guest speaker Interim President Dr. Ryan Blanton shared some inspiring and congratulatory remarks for our Aggie family. The Year in Review of the Aggies showcased each Aggie sports team's year throughout the 2021-2022 season and their many successes.

Haley Saur (Softball) and Brandon Stephens (Football) came out with the 2022 Freshman of the year award. Newcomer of the Year went to Tatum Trester (Softball) and Caleb Newell (Rodeo). The Scholar-Athlete award went to Kinzie Jones (Softball) and Alfred Alkannama (Men's Basketball).

Softball also came out with the Team Excellence award, with the highest grade point average among its 2022 roster, cumulating a 3.60 GPA for this academic school year. Baseball walked away with the NAIA Champions of Character award. An award given to the team whose initiative is about going beyond the game and using athletics as a vehicle to better our community and campus volunteerism, as well as leadership on and off the field.

Aggie Athletics took the time to recognize a faculty/staff person who gives selflessly for the good of the University and athletics. Someone who always seems to put the needs of the University and athletics above the needs of themselves. The award went to the one and only "voice of the Aggies", Derek Barton in his final year at Panhandle State.

To finish out the night, Female and Male Athletes of the year were handed out. Essence West (Volleyball) and Ethan Hunt (Baseball) both received the prestigious award from Interim President Dr. Ryan Blanton and Athletic Director Victor Esparza.

On a night of celebration, remembrance, and appreciation, the Aggie family got the chance to see how much they appreciated on campus. Aggie Athletics would like to thank all of the student-athletes who battled through adversity to help continue to make Panhandle State Athletics special. Congratulations to the nominees and those who took home awards!
