Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggies Women's Soccer Team celebrated Senior Night in a thrilling match against Texas Wesleyan University.
The Senior Night event, was a memorable occasion to honor five exceptional players who have contributed significantly to the Aggies' soccer program. Regan Ake, Nila Munoz, Rebecca Herriotts, Faith Cook, and Mya Szymanski were honored this afternoon, for their dedication and hard work throughout their collegiate careers.Â
The match began with the Rams of Texas Wesleyan University scoring a goal in the 2nd minute of the game, albeit having an earlier goal disallowed due to an offsides call. However, the Aggies responded quickly, seizing an opportunity in the 5th minute with a corner kick. Regan Ake delivered a perfect corner kick, which was beautifully converted by Emma Daskalov, tying the game 1-1.
As the first half was drawing to a close, the Rams managed to capitalize on a quick throw-in, taking the lead 2-1 just three seconds before halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Aggies refused to back down. In the 46th minute, Lindsay Church found the back of the net, assisted by Mallory Maltese after an excellent effort and cross from Briana Alvarez, leveling the score at 2-2.
Despite the valiant effort, Texas Wesleyan University regained the lead with a goal in the 65th minute off a corner kick, making it 3-2. The Rams extended their lead further shortly afterward, bringing the final score to 4-2. Head Coach Evan Camperell said this on the teams effort today, "we demondrated a lot of energy and heart today in our designated senior game, I applaud them for their efforts."
The post-game festivities were a touching tribute to the seniors, where family members and teammates joined together to celebrate the remarkable contributions of our 5 seniors to the OPSU Women's Soccer Program.Â
The Aggies will travel to Southwestern Christian for their next game on Saturday Oct. 21 at 1 PM.Â
