Oklahoma Panhandle State University women's volleyball team faced a tough challenge today as they went head-to-head with Mid-America Christian University (MACU) on the road. Despite their best efforts, the Aggies couldn't maintain their winning streak and lost the match in straight sets with scores of 25-22, 25-16, and 25-14.
The Aggies, who entered the game on a five-game winning streak, encountered adversity early on when their standout outside hitter, Bryanna Rosaio, went down with an injury during the first set. The team had to adapt quickly, and Ava Newby stepped up to lead the Aggies with 7 kills.Â
Despite the setback, the Aggies had to battle a MACU team that made it difficult for them to get going on the attack. Nyah Ulmer, one of the team's setters, contributed with 9 assists, and Kensey Clifton provided 7 assists. Ulmer also showcased her defensive skills with 9 digs, while Mia Sanchez, Taylore Alsaid, and Kensey Clifton each contributed 5 digs.
Head Coach Nick Serowski acknowledged the challenge of playing after losing a key player, stating, "The match was looking promising, but after sustaining an injury to a crucial member of the team, we were unable to battle adversity and step up in her absence. Adversity is inevitable, and we have to find better ways to navigate it if we want to be a competitive team."
While this match presented a tough test for the Aggies, the team remains determined to finish the season strong. They have two more games remaining, with their next game scheduled for next Thursday at home in Anchor D Arena. The Aggies will be looking to bounce back when they take on SAGU at 6 PM.
