Aggies Fall Short Against Sul Ross State

Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) men's basketball team faced Sul Ross State University, ultimately falling short by a margin of 5 points with a final score of 60-55.

The Aggies entered halftime down by only 1 point with a score of 25-24. Sul Ross State's bench proved to be a significant factor in securing the victory, outscoring OPSU with 32 points compared to the Aggies' 12.

OPSU accumulated 28 points in the paint tonight. Fred Robinson IV led the team in scoring tallying 23 points on 8-16 shooting. Joe Greaves contributed 11 points, going 3-5 from beyond the arc and 4-8 from the field, while also grabbing 8 rebounds. Freshman Ethan Wiley made a notable impact off the bench with 5 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks.

Head Coach Charles Belt expressed his disappointment after the game, acknowledging the team's struggles and emphasizing the need for improvement. Coach Belt stated, "Today was a tough day. It was exceptionally difficult because it exposed how bad of a job I've done preparing and teaching our basketball team. We got beat on actions that we've discussed and reviewed since day 1 of training camp. We turned the ball over 19 times by not playing off of 2 feet—a fundamental skill that must be repped daily. Players don't lose games... coaches do! I do! If I can't teach us the principles needed to defend and execute on offense, it's going to be an extremely difficult conference season for us coming up."

Despite the setback, falling to 2-2 the Aggies remain focused on addressing the issues raised by Coach Belt during their upcoming exhibition games. With three exhibitions on the horizon, OPSU aims to fine-tune their performance before heading into the conference season.

The next counter game for the Aggies is a home SAC matchup against Southwestern Christian University on November 30th at 8 PM.
