Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) women's basketball team faced Hastings College resulting in a 74-27 loss.
In the first quarter, OPSU struggled, giving up 20 points while only scoring 2. Hastings College showcased an impressive shooting performance, with a 69% field goal percentage and a 66% success rate from beyond the arc. By halftime, the Aggies found themselves trailing 33-4.
OPSU managed to find some offensive rhythm in the second half, putting up 10 points in the third quarter and 13 in the fourth. Freshman Heidi Rodriguez led the team in scoring with 9 points, connecting on 3 of 8 attempts from downtown. Jana Radovanovic stood out as the rebounding leader for the Aggies, securing 8 boards.
Head Coach Maria Wiltzius acknowledged the team's struggle to convert opportunities into points, stating, "It's hard to be in games and compete if you can't score the basketball. When we are able to get stops, we need to find some people that want to put the ball in the basket; otherwise, constantly missing just takes the wind out of the sails."
Coach Wiltzius emphasized the importance of the upcoming Holiday Break, stating, "Couldn't be a better time for a break; we need a mental break after everything that has gone on. We need to come back with a clean headspace and find our why for the second semester."
OPSU will resume action after the break with an exhibition game at West Texas A&M University on December 30th at 1 PM. Conference play will pick back up on January 4th at 6 PM in Fort Worth, Texas, against Texas Wesleyan University.
