In a nail-biting clash between Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) and Mid-America Christian University (MACU), the OPSU Aggies emerged victorious with a final score of 66-65. Both teams entered the game with a 1-0 record in the conference, setting the stage for an intense battle on the court.
The Aggies faced a challenging start, trailing 19-5 at one point in the game. However, their resilience and determination came to the forefront as they mounted an impressive comeback. A crucial turning point occurred just before halftime when Joe Greaves sank a last-second 3-pointer, propelling the Aggies to a 30-29 lead.
In the second half, OPSU maintained their lead, ultimately securing a hard-fought win. Senior standout Joe Greaves played a pivotal role in the team's success, demonstrating a clutch performance with late free throws and a crucial two-point basket. Greaves finished the game with an impressive 25 points and 11 rebounds, earning a double-double.
Amaree Brown also delivered a stellar performance, contributing 21 points on a 7-13 shooting performance from the field. Ethan Wiley dominated the boards for the Aggies, securing 7 rebounds during the game.
Head Coach Charles Belt commended his team's collective effort, particularly in overcoming a slow start. Reflecting on the first half, Coach Belt stated, "The one thing I was impressed the most with in the first half is how everybody stepped up. I tell the guys, we are not a 1 or 2 man show; we talk about everybody. Our bench did a tremendous job contributing when our top 3 guys were not there. They kept us close, and taking the lead going into halftime was huge; we felt good."
With this victory, the Aggies now boast a 2-0 record in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Looking ahead, OPSU will face John Brown in their next matchup on the road next Thursday.
