Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) Women's Basketball team faced off against Oklahoma City University (OCU) Stars.
The first quarter set the tone for the contest, with the Aggies putting up a strong effort. Despite foul trouble for guard Heidi Rodriguez, she contributed 5 crucial points to start the game, OPSU ended the first quarter trailing closely behind with a score of 9 to OCU's 11.
As the game progressed into the second quarter, OCU capitalized on offensive rebounds, amassing 10 to their advantage. However, the Aggies' stifling defense proved pivotal, resulting in a tie at halftime with both teams locked at 18 points each.
The third quarter saw OCU maintaining a slight lead at 31-27. The Stars' accuracy from the free-throw line and the Aggies' converting on 3-9 in the 4th quarter from three kept the game intensely competitive. The fourth quarter proved to be the turning point, as OCU secured their victory with a final score of 48-37.
Sierra Tate led the Aggies in scoring with an impressive 10 points and 9 rebounds. Mariah Williams showcased her versatility with 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals, while Diana Santos dominated the boards with 12 rebounds and added 2 assists.
Head Coach Maria Wiltzius said after the game, "I'm very proud of these young women, they really turned it around from Thursday. They played hard, made plays throughout the game to stay in it, and defended. I like where we are at mentally right now."
Looking ahead, OPSU will be returning to their home court on Tuesday, Dec. 12th, to face Wayland Baptist University at 6 PM. Fans can expect another thrilling showdown as the Aggies aim to bounce back from this hard-fought defeat.
