Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) Women's Basketball team encountered a formidable opponent in Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU). Unfortunately, the Aggies faced a tough defeat, with a final score of 102-44, highlighting the Lions of SAGU's exceptional performance.
The Lions showcased their shooting prowess, going an impressive 19-35 from beyond the arc, demonstrating their dominance on the court. The Aggies, while striving to produce defensive stops, encountered challenges converting those opportunities into scoring plays, making it difficult to cut into the deficit.
The first quarter proved to be a challenging start for OPSU, finding themselves trailing 27-3. Despite the early setback, the Aggies displayed resilience, with the third quarter emerging as their strongest defensive effort, holding SAGU to 19 points while scoring 9.
Sierra Tate led OPSU in scoring with an impressive 15 points, going 10-11 from the free-throw line and 1-2 from beyond the three-point line. Tate also contributed with 2 assists and 2 rebounds. Hedid Rodriguez added 7 points and 4 rebounds, while Julia Pacheco played a crucial role in rebounding with 6 for the team.
Head Coach Maria Wiltzius acknowledged the challenges faced in the game, stating, "It is hard to play any game being down by that much early. We need to defend better and keep ourselves within striking distance going into the 4th quarter of games, then see what happens. We have a lot to work on, but a 3-game week next week means we don't have time, so we have to mentally lock in and be prepared."
Looking ahead, OPSU Women's Basketball is gearing up for their next challenge on the road against Wayland Baptist University on Tuesday at 6 PM.
