Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) women's basketball team and Mid-America Christian University (MACU), the Aggies displayed a commendable effort but ultimately fell short, with a final score of 65-53. The game, held in Oklahoma City, showcased back-and-forth action.
The first half kept fans on the edge of their seats, featuring six lead changes and the score tied five times. Despite MACU holding a nine-point lead at one juncture, the Aggies fought back aggressively. In a dramatic turn of events, OPSU made a strong push at the end of the half, momentarily seizing the lead. However, a buzzer-beating three-pointer by the Evangels left the score at 27-25 in favor of MACU at halftime.
The second half proved challenging for OPSU as they struggled to defend against MACU's offensive prowess, conceding 19 points in both the third and fourth quarters. Despite the Aggies keeping the game within striking distance, they were unable to surpass MACU and secure a lead.
Leading the charge for OPSU was Sierra Tate, who contributed 16 points, shooting 4-9 from the field and an impressive 7-8 from the free-throw line. Jana Radovanovic added 11 points, including two three-pointers, and showcased her prowess on the boards with 6 rebounds. Off the bench, Diana Santos made a significant impact, contributing 7 points and securing 6 rebounds.
Head Coach Maria Wiltzius expressed her thoughts following the game, stating, "That was a competitive game going back and forth; it was fun to coach and be in the game. We are playing good basketball right now and sticking to our game plan. Now we just need to defend for 40 minutes. It's hard for us to win when we give up 38 points in a half, but I like where we are at."
Looking ahead, the Aggies will return home next week for an exciting matchup against John Brown and Oklahoma City, aiming to bounce back with a strong performance on their home court.
