GOODWELL, Okla-The OPSU women's basketball team triumphed over the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma with a 60-52 victory, finally breaking their winless streak for the season. This win is significant as it marks the Aggies' first victory against USAO since 2018.
The game began with a competitive first quarter where the Aggies trailed by 4 points until Heidi Rodriguez's pivotal 3-pointer at 5:42, narrowing the score to 7-8 in favor of the Drovers. Jana Radovanovic's layup at the 5:03 mark turned the tide, propelling the Aggies to a 9-8 lead, a position they maintained for the rest of the game.
Senior Sierra Tate played a pivotal role in leading the team to victory, contributing 11 crucial points. Mariah Williams showcased her versatility with 6 points, accompanied by an impressive stat line of 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals, demonstrating her impactful presence on both ends of the court.
The team's collective effort was reflected in their shooting percentages, with a commendable 41% from both the floor and beyond the arc, underscoring their efficiency and accuracy during the game.
After the assistant coach Charles Belt shared"It was an extremely emotional locker room in a good way! People have no idea what these ladies have been through! First off I'm so proud of their mental toughness, perseverance, and resolve! To get their first win, on the road, against a team Receiving votes words can't describe! I love these young ladies! They're tremendous young women first and foremost and showed today they're not ready to quit and got plenty of fight left  in them"
With this morale-boosting win, the Aggies return home with renewed confidence to face UNT-Dallas on January 11th at 6:00 PM. The team will look to build upon this victory and carry the momentum forward into their upcoming matchup.
