Goodwell, Okla: The Aggies secured a high-scoring 48-40 victory against Louisiana Christian University on Saturday afternoon, marking a significant milestone for the program. The Aggies triumphed in a nail-biter and handed the Wildcats their first loss at home since September 25, 2021, ending a remarkable 14-game winning streak that spanned 1,106 days. This will also mark a 3-2 overall record since 2015 and a 3-1 in conference since 2018 for the Aggies.
The Wildcats took an early 7-0 lead, but the Aggies responded with a 22-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Brandon Stephens to Teandre Newcomb, tying the game at 7-7.
The teams traded scores throughout the first quarter, with Stephens scoring on a 9-yard run to give the Aggies a 14-10 advantage.
Louisiana Christian battled back in the second quarter, with Charles adding two more rushing touchdowns to extend their lead. However, Jamarian George broke free for a 75-yard touchdown run, keeping the Aggies in striking distance. Stephens connected with Jabari Coleman for a 19-yard touchdown pass, putting OPSU ahead, but the Wildcats answered with a 59-yard run by Taevion Cunningham, bringing the score to 31-27 at halftime.
In the third quarter, LCU added a field goal to extend their lead, but OPSU's Draylon Roberson immediately responded with a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, his second of the season, tying the game at 34. George then exploded for a 57-yard touchdown run, giving the Aggies a 41-34 lead. A 17-yard touchdown pass from Stephens to Jalen Partida in the fourth quarter sealed the game for the Aggies, despite a late 2-yard rushing touchdown by Cunningham for the Wildcats.
Brandon Stephens completed 7 of 17 passes for 155 yards and three touchdowns while adding 64 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. Jamarian George rushed for 162 yards on six carries, scoring two touchdowns, including a 75-yard and a 57-yard run. Draylon Roberson returned a kickoff for 96 yards for a touchdown and caught two passes for 67 yards. Jabari Coleman and Jalen Partida each recorded touchdown receptions.
Defensively, Charles Holmes led the Aggies with 16 total tackles, including two interceptions. Darius Doze added three sacks, contributing to a relentless defensive effort that forced multiple turnovers.
