Goodwell, Okla-The Aggies men's basketball team tipped off their 2024-25 season with a thrilling non-conference showdown on the road against McPherson College in McPherson, Kansas. The Aggies entered the matchup to avenge last season's 63-81 loss in Goodwell; this marked the fourth meeting between the two teams.
Early in the first half, the Aggies made an impact when
Tahki Chievous drained a three-pointer at the 13:40 mark, putting OPSU up 13-4 and giving them an early nine-point advantage. However, the Bulldogs responded with a three-pointer just minutes later, leveling the score at 15-15 at 11:33.Â
The teams exchanged baskets for the rest of the first half in a back-and-forth battle. By halftime, McPherson had edged ahead by the narrowest of margins, leading 35-34.
Both teams continued to match each other shot for shot in the second half. The Aggies briefly took control when
Abdulh Diaby connected from beyond the arc with 8:32 remaining, pushing OPSU's lead to 66-57, their largest half-lead. Yet, McPherson mounted a comeback that cut the Aggies' lead to a single point at 66-65 with just over five minutes to play.Â
In the final moments, McPherson took a one-point lead at 78-77 with just 40 seconds on the clock, putting OPSU in a difficult position. The Bulldogs extended their lead to three by converting two clutch free throws, sealing the game at 80-77.

Amaree Brown led the way with 17 points on 6-of-14 shooting, hitting all five free throws and grabbing two rebounds.
Kyle Belgrave II contributed 10 points and pulled seven rebounds, while
Abdulh Diaby added 13 points, going 6- 10 from the field.
Brice Langford added 11 points and seven rebounds.
Overall, the Aggies shot 41.5% from the field but struggled from the three-point line, connecting on 27.6% of their attempts. The game featured four ties and nine lead changes. The Aggies' bench also played a key role, contributing 41 points, with the team scoring 30 points in the paint and securing 16 second-chance points.
The Aggies will look to regroup before heading to Lindsborg, Kansas, on November 2 to face Bethany College.
