Goodwell, Okla—The men's basketball team battled to the final buzzer on Tuesday night but fell short, losing 72-71 to Wayland Baptist University at the Hutcherson Center.
The game was tightly contested throughout, featuring five ties and two lead changes. The Aggies held a nine-point advantage midway through the second half but could not hold off a late surge by the Pioneers.
Leading the way for the Aggies was Amaree Brown, who came off the bench to deliver an impressive 22 points on 7-of-15 shooting. Kyle Belgrave II added 14 points and six rebounds, converting all six free-throw attempts. Vyson Miller chipped in eight points and three rebounds, while Raul Nunez matched his contribution with eight points of his own, knocking down two three-pointers.
After the game head coach Charles Belt stated "At some point you can't lose every single last possession game in a full season. Have to stay diligent and prayerful that as the season progresses all these leads in the last minute of a game turn into wins! I like our fight, I like our talent, I don't like our luck late."
Game Summary
The Aggies started strong, shooting 36% from the field in the first half and taking a slim 32-35 deficit into halftime. In the second half, Oklahoma Panhandle State shot 35% from the floor and improved their free-throw shooting to 73.3%, but it wasn't enough to overcome Wayland Baptist's efficiency.
