Oklahoma Panhandle State University Women's Basketball team faced a challenging match against Southwestern Assemblies of God University.
The first quarter of the game saw the Aggies grappling with a strong offensive push from Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU), surrendering 19 points. Despite the early setback, the Aggies showed their competitive spirit, but the second quarter proved to be a struggle as OPSU was held to just 6 points. The halftime score reflected a tough battle, with SAGU leading 37-16.
The second half witnessed a remarkable defensive effort from OPSU, particularly in containing SAGU's sharpshooting. The Aggies managed to limit SAGU to 24 points in the half, showcasing their ability to adapt and respond to the challenges posed by their opponents.
However, turnovers proved to be a significant factor, with SAGU capitalizing on 26 Aggies turnovers, accumulating 31 points from those opportunities. Despite the adversity, Sierra Tate led the Aggies in scoring with an impressive 15 points, demonstrating her offensive prowess. Additionally, Alex Kimble made a significant impact by grabbing 9 rebounds for OPSU.
Head Coach Maria Wiltzius acknowledged the toughness of the game, stating, "This was a game we knew would be tough, they got shooters everywhere. We had some people ready to play and some were not. Basketball is a team sport, and all 5 on the court need to be bought in and locked in. Another opportunity on Saturday to show up and compete."
Looking ahead, the Aggies are gearing up for their next challenge as they face UNT-Dallas on Saturday at 2 PM.
