GOODWELL, The Aggies softball team faced off against the Langston University Lions in the conference home opener.
Game One: OPSU Aggies 7 - Langston University Lions 4
In the first game of the doubleheader, the OPSU Aggies secured a hard-fought victory with a final score of 7-4. The game was a back-and-forth affair with both teams.
The Aggies got off to a strong start, scoring runs in the first and second innings to take an early 2-0 lead. However, the Lions climbed a comeback in the fourth inning, scoring four runs to take the lead.
The Aggies fought back and tied the game in the 5th inning thanks to a clutch sac fly by Kaylynn Du Preez, followed by a triple from Nicole Peralta to take the lead 5-4. The Aggies' offense was firing on all cylinders, with five players recording two hits in the contest. Audi Pettaway led the team with two RBIs.
Kenley Yocom started in the circle for the Aggies, making her ninth start of the season. Yocom pitched four innings, allowing four runs off seven hits while striking out three batters. Rylin Baker came on in relief and earned her first win of the season, tossing three innings and allowing no runs on four hits.
Game Two: OPSU Aggies 8 - Langston University Lions 3
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Aggies continued their offensive attack, securing an 8-3 victory over the Lions.
The Aggies wasted no time getting their bats going, as Nicole Peralta, Audi Pettaway, and Meagan Bellar hit back-to-back-to-back doubles in the first inning to take an early 2-1 lead.
The Aggies offense remained determined, scoring five runs in the second inning to extend their lead further. Pitcher Kaycee Torres delivered a stellar performance, earning her fourth win of the season while tossing her third complete game.
The OPSU Aggies will be back in action tomorrow, March 11th, with the first pitch set for noon.
