Goodwell, OK – This past weekend, the Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggies softball team faced a challenging series against the Wayland Baptist University Pioneers. Despite solid efforts and making history by pacing the Pioneers for the first time in program history, the Aggies were swept in a four-game series.
Game One Recap:
The series opener saw a strong performance in the circle from Kenley Yocom, who pitched seven innings and allowed three runs off nine hits. The Aggies struggled to find a tempo at the plate, managing three hits and leaving five runners on base.
Game Two Highlights:
The Aggies showed promise early in game two, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning off a Chloe Browning single. However, the Pioneers responded in the second and third innings to take a 2-1 lead. Browning, showcasing her skill, doubled in the third inning, driving in two runs and momentarily putting the Aggies ahead 4-2. Despite their efforts, the Pioneers reclaimed the lead in the fourth inning and sealed the game with a 5-4 victory over the Aggies.
Game Three Overview:
Toni Shawnee pitched two innings in her first appearance of the season, allowing five runs off six hits. Relief pitcher Rylin Baker stepped in from the bullpen as the Aggies attempted a comeback. Nicole Peralta and Audi Pettaway contributed with key doubles, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome, with the game ending 7-4 in favor of the Pioneers.
Game Four Attempt at a Comeback:
The series' final game started unfavorably for the Aggies, with the Pioneers taking a commanding 10-0 lead after the second inning. However, the Aggies showed resilience, mounting a partial comeback highlighted by critical hits from Marissa Obregon, Kaylynn Du Preez, Karsyn Coleman, and Chloe Browning. Despite their efforts to close the gap, the game concluded with a 10-5 score, securing the series sweep for the Pioneers.
