Toni Shawnee tosses complete game shutout as Aggies Sweep Doubleheader Against SAGU

Goodwell, OK – The OPSU Aggies softball team enjoyed a victorious afternoon on Thursday, securing a doubleheader sweep against the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions with scores of 9-5 and 2-0. 

Game One Recap:

The Aggies kicked off the first game with an explosive start, scoring three runs in the opening inning. Chloe Browning doubled to center field, bringing in Audi Pettaway for the first run. Melissa Carroll and Gracie Lankford contributed to the scoring with a sacrifice fly and a double, respectively, taking the early lead to 3-0.

The momentum continued in the second inning as Audi Pettaway tripled to center field, driving in two more runs. Browning and Meagan Bellar added to the tally, with Bellar singling and later scoring on an error, and Browning doubled to center field to extend the lead further.

Nicole Peralta's double in the sixth inning sealed the deal for the Aggies, driving in two more runs to bring the final score to 9-3 in favor of OPSU. 

Kenley Yocom took the circle for the Aggies, pitching four innings and earning her first win.

Game Two Recap:

The second game of the doubleheader was a tighter contest, with pitching taking the forefront. The game's only runs came in the fourth inning when Meagan Bellar homered to left center, driving in Audi Pettaway and securing a 2-0 victory for the Aggies.

Toni Shawnee delivered an outstanding performance on the mound, pitching a complete game shutout. She allowed only four hits over seven innings while striking out seven batters.

Looking Ahead:

The Aggies will conclude their series against the SAGU Lions tomorrow, with the first game scheduled for noon.
