Chickasha, OK: The Aggies baseball team closed their season with challenging matchups in the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament. They faced stiff competition, concluding with a doubleheader loss on Friday and Saturday.
The eighth-seeded Aggies first faced the top-seeded Mid-America Christian University Evangels. Despite a spirited effort, the Aggies fell 2-7 in this initial matchup. Early scoring by Mid-America Christian set the pace, with the Evangels quickly scoring four runs in the first two innings. Jeremy Dibartolomeo provided a highlight with two RBIs, but the early drought proved too great to overcome.
Josh Doerr started the game by pitching five innings while giving up six earned runs. Carlos Joaquin and Kiebert Medina came on in relief later in the game.
Later Friday night, the Aggies faced Wayland Baptist University in a game that extended into Saturday morning due to inclement weather. This high-scoring game ended with the Aggies on the short end of a 10-14 score.
Wayland Baptist took an early lead, but OPSU fought back in the middle innings, tying the game at 6-6 by the fifth. Unfortunately, a solid ninth inning by Wayland Baptist, highlighted by a three-run homer, sealed the victory for the Pioneers.
Bo Spitdowsk drove in three runs with a ninth-inning triple. Pitching duties were shared among Colby Diduch, Esai Torres, Zach Mayhew, Brandon Rodriguez, and Leandra Tamaki, with Mayhew taking the loss.
After the Saturday game, head coach Shawn Joy said, "We fought all year and did some good things to be proud of. We're going to miss this senior class. It's a good group of guys who made Aggie Baseball better."
