It is with great pride and excitement that we announce the induction of Rodger Schenks into the 2024 Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) Athletics Hall of Fame. Schenks, who attended OPSU from 1995 to 1997, left an indelible mark on the Aggie football program as an exceptional punter.

During his tenure at OPSU, Schenks demonstrated unparalleled skill and dedication on the field. In 1995, he was named First Team All-Conference Punter and earned Honorable Mention All-American honors. His remarkable performance continued into 1996, where he led the nation in punting and was subsequently named First Team All-American.

Reflecting on his time at OPSU, Schenks fondly recalled the strong bonds he formed with teammates and the quality education he received in the small-town environment. "The people you meet and teammates make the memories in a small town with quality education," Schenks stated, emphasizing the lasting impact of his experiences at Panhandle State.

Following his collegiate career, Schenks continued to excel in the sport by playing arena football in Madison, WI, from 1998 to 1999. He began his teaching career in 1997 and has been a dedicated educator ever since. His coaching prowess was recognized in 2002 when he was named Arizona Coach of the Year. Additionally, he has twice been the head coach for the AZFCA All-Star teams, in 2012 and 2014.

Looking back at his time as part of the Aggie crew, Schenks expressed gratitude towards his coaches, particularly Coach Hassle, Coach Abbott, and Coach K. He credits them with helping him hone his punting skills and instilling a sense of hard work and dedication." It was a honor to play it at OPSU , And all the people that help me achieve the individual success.

Punting/kicking is hard position to master. Being able to be the best in the conference both years in 95-96  and the best in the nation 97 is a great honor. And it couldn't be done without everyone on those special teams units. It show hard work pays off. The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on August 31st at 11 AM at OPSU, followed by the home opener football game against Wayland Baptist at 6 PM. We look forward to celebrating the achievements of Rodger Schenks and the other inductees as we honor their contributions to OPSU athletics.
