Oklahoma Panhandle State University is thrilled to announce Murry Gloude as an inductee into the 2024Â OPSU Athletics Hall of Fame. Gloude, who played football for the Aggies from 1989-1992, graduated from OPSU in the spring of 1993 and is remembered as one of the most formidable strong safeties in the program's history.
During his time with the Aggie Crew, Gloude recorded an impressive 238Â tackles. Notably, he played through his senior year with a cast, a testament to his toughness and dedication to the game. His leadership was further recognized when he was named team captain in his senior year.
One of Gloude's cherished memories from his football career at OPSU was the victory over West Texas A&M, a moment that epitomized the competitive spirit and camaraderie of the team. Growing up in a family of 14 seven boys and seven girls, Gloude was the only male sibling to graduate from both high school and college, a milestone that underscores his determination and resilience.
Before joining OPSU, Gloude attended Southern University in New Orleans for track, then transferred to OPSU where he made an indelible mark in football. After graduating, he enjoyed a 30-year career at PTCI and has been the co-owner of Quality Carpet Care for 16 years. I would like to extend my appreciation to my business partner Jeborric Evans who has been a great partner and friend for the last 16 years. Gloude's commitment to his community is evident through his 12 years of service on the school board of Goodwell Public Schools. Other cherished memories were coaching his children in KIDS Inc. sports, Alexis in T-ball and Derrick in baseball when they were growing up. Gloude spent many years actively supporting the Goodwell Booster Club.
Gloude's time at OPSU was profoundly influenced by Head Coach Dee Cooper, Coach Phillip Ware, the Defensive Coordinator at the time. These two coaches played pivotal roles in shaping his athletic and personal development. Additionally, his high school and college teammate, Tommy Hunt, was a significant source of daily motivation, pushing him to excel. Another influential figure was Junior Herron from Borger, Tx and Charles Reed, Texhoma, Ok who contributed to his football journey. While attending OPSU, Gloude met and became lifelong friends with Adrian Jackson who was stand out basketball player for OPSU.
Reflecting on his induction into the Hall of Fame, Gloude expressed, "It's very special, very exciting. Just sitting at home thinking about what a tremendous honor this is, you never know who is looking over you." He expressed gratitude to OPSU for laying the foundation of his career and life. Gloude wishes that his mother Willie Mae Gloude was here to witness this great accomplishment as she was one of his biggest supporters. Â Today, his pride and joy are his wife Elana, his children Derrick (with wife Lauren) and Alexis, and his grandsons Miles and Mayes.
