GOODWELL, OK – The Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) Men's Soccer team kicked off their 2024 season with a hard-fought match against the University of the Southwest Mustangs. Despite a determined effort, the Aggies fell 0-1 in the non-conference battle, evening out the all-time series at 2-2-1.

The match's lone goal came early, with the Mustangs finding the back of the net at the 5-minute mark. The Aggies fought valiantly throughout the game but could not equalize, leaving them with a narrow loss to start the season.

• Olai Caicoya recorded eight saves despite the early goal.
• Thomas Garcia and Luis Bardales were key contributors on the field, with Garcia and Bardales each recording a shot on goal.
• David Rubio led the offense with two shots. 

Head coach Garrett Kull expressed after the game "Look it was a hard fought game. A lot of credit goes to how Southwest played and we just didn't take our chances today. I thought the team did really well and played with a lot of energy and heart." 

"There's still a lot to work on early in the season. We're not at our best yet but that's why you play these tough games on the road to test your team. You can see in moments the potential of this group we just need to put it all together."

The Aggies will look to bounce back as they hit the road again. They will head to Kansas City, MO, to face Avila University on Saturday, September 7th. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM.
