Volleyball Seniors Celebrated Before Second Straight Home Sweep

GOODWELL, Okla. — Playing in its regular season home finale Saturday afternoon for Senior Day, the Oklahoma Panhandle State volleyball team (14-11, 12-6 SAC) delivered a show for its supporters, sweeping Langston (9-18, 5-13) behind 50 kills on a .355 hitting percentage.

Prior to the match, eight seniors were recognized, including four-year members Mia Sanchez, Nyah Ulmer and Ava Newby, along with Brenna Moore, Emma Coburn, Winiffer Rodriguez, Elena Kagiali and Aurelia Pleets.

The Senior Day ceremony fueled a hot start for OPSU, which raced out to 16-9 lead in the opening set before slamming the door with frame's final nine points.

Set number two started out a little shaky for the Aggies, but a barrage of kills – 17 total for the home team in the set – helped put Panhandle State over the finish line.

OPSU had no trouble closing out the match early, boosted in part by three straight kills from Newby down the stretch.

Panhandle State's .355 kill percentage marks the highest for the program in a single match since early in the 2023 season. Kagiali, Newby and Skyla Stark accounted for 35 of the team's kills, with each attacker eclipsing a .400 hitting clip.

The Aggies had an impressive 49 assists in the three-set match, 40 of which went to Sanchez.

Taylore Alsaid and Kagiali tied for a match-high 16 digs, with Rodriguez also reaching double-digit digs.

What's up next: OPSU tries to keep momentum on its side when it travels to Science & Arts (16-11, 10-8) on Friday, Oct. 31, for the start of a four-match road trip to close the regular season.
