GOODWELL, Okla. — Oklahoma Panhandle State University Athletics has named women's cross country's Carolina Valenzuela and men's soccer goalie Olai Caicoya as the Mack's Motorsports Aggies of the Week for their performances over the past week of action, Oct. 20-26.
Valenzuela was on a cruiser on Saturday as she shattered her own school-record 6k mark with a swift time of 23:20.39, which surpassed the previous record by over 40 seconds. Valenzuela would finish 49th in a field of 275 runners, one that featured four ranked programs in the mix. Her consistent progress and growing confidence race after race will be huge for the Aggies' next meet, the SAC Championships, held at John Brown University on Nov. 8.
Caicoya also had a week to remember, as he had an .875 save percentage on the weekend, featuring a huge shutout performance in the box when the Aggies took down RV Mid-America Christian in a 1-0 win on Monday. The senior goalkeeper and OPSU have just one lone game left of the season, scheduled for Tuesday evening at Wayland Baptist. The Aggies are looking to clinch a playoff spot as they sit at sixth place in the SAC going into Tuesday's crucial matchup.
