GOODWELL, Okla. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State women's soccer team (5-4, 2-2 SAC) tallied a program-record 32 shots and dominated every major statistical category Tuesday afternoon at Anchor D Stadium in a 3-2 victory over Central Christian (3-7-2, 1-3).
The win keeps OPSU perfect at home this season (4-0), and it gives the 2025 squad the all-time program record for single-season victories.
The Aggies totaled 32 shots as they controlled possession throughout the game – the most it has ever taken in a single match. A season-high 15 shots were on goal.
Emma Contreras struck first in the 32nd minute, collecting her second goal of the season with a perfect shot placed in the upper 90 to give OPSU a 1-0 lead that stood into the intermission.
Despite an array of opportunities, Panhandle State could not tally another goal until Central Christian netted the equalizer midway through the second half.
Contreras was not done yet, however, putting the Aggies back on top in the 78th minute, 2-1, with a 35-yard strike that snuck in under the crossbar.
OPSU added another goal just four minutes later, working on a nice combination from
Yaddelis Alderete to
Toriana Holt that made it a 3-1 advantage. Holt's goal marked her third this season, while Alderete's helper was her second.
A late goal from Central Christian did not spoil the party, as the Aggies capitalized on their dominant statistical performance.
Contreras totaled 12 shots (five on goal), and she was joined by
Emma Daskalov, Alderete,
Stephanie Villagomez and
Anne Fernandes with multiple shots attempted.
AlaraLynn Gunderson (5-2) was awarded the goalkeeper win, as she and the defense did not see any shots on target during her minutes.
What's up next: OPSU has another home match on Friday when it welcomes No. 22 Science & Arts (7-2-4, 2-0-2 SAC) to Goodwell.
