GOODWELL, Okla. — To start off the month of November and cap off October, Oklahoma Panhandle State University Athletics has listed rodeo's Camree Slavin and shooting sports' senior Cameron Smith as the Mack's Motorsports Aggies of the Week for the past week of action, Oct. 27-Nov. 2.
Slavin closed out the fall rodeo season in Alva, Oklahoma, in electric fashion, leaving the NWOSU rodeo as the Women's All-Around Champion. Slavin was dominant in both events she was entered in – the breakaway roping and team roping. In the breakaway, Slavin notched a stellar time of 2.5 seconds in the long round, putting her at sixth. Then in the short go, she recorded a solid 3.0 seconds which put her at third overall in the average.
In the team roping, Slavin and her partner, Rustyn Gilmore, placed eighth in the long round with a time of 8.4 seconds. Then in the short go, the duo recorded a time of 12.4 seconds to send them to sixth in the average. These two placing performances were more than enough to send Slavin to the top as Women's All-Around Champion and lead the Aggies to fifth on the weekend.
Smith finished seventh of 35 competitors overall in Goodland, Kansas, leading his squad to a season-best third place showing at the Fort Hays Tech Northwest Tiger Shootout this past weekend. The meet featured four different categories, with Smith leading OPSU in three of the four – double trap, sporting and skeet. Smith and the Aggies have been active while showing vast improvement this fall traveling to five different contests, with one more upcoming ACUI competition scheduled in 2025.
