Bray’s Double-Double Not Enough Against Eagles

GOODWELL, Okla. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State women's basketball team (2-2) fell 55-50 Saturday afternoon to Northern New Mexico (1-2) despite Emily Bray's 13-point, 14-rebound double-double.

Both teams shot under 34% from the field in the contest, the final women's game of the No Man's Land Classic inside Anchor D Arena.

A low-scoring first half saw the visiting Eagles hold a slim 23-21 advantage, with Tryssa Dowd and Bray doing the bulk of the work offensively for OPSU with a combined 13 points.

NNMC continued to hold a slight lead throughout the third quarter, and it entered the final period ahead by four, 39-35.

The Eagles quickly extended their lead to 11 in the fourth quarter following a three-pointer with just under seven minutes to play.

As it had done Friday night, however, Panhandle State was poised to make a comeback as Bray cleaned up the glass and went on a personal 6-0 scoring run to bring the Aggies back within four. A couple minutes later with under a minute to play, Heidi Rodriguez made it a one-possession game, 52-49, with her third three-pointer of the night.

Forced to play the foul game in the closing seconds, the Aggies put Northern New Mexico to the charity stripe twice, where it made three of its final four free throws to put the game away.

The Aggies had a strong night on the boards, holding a 46-38 advantage in the category. Nine Aggies had at least two rebounds apiece.

Dowd tied Bray with a team-high 13 points, while Zamari Reece collected five assists.

What's up next: OPSU is back in action at home for a Wednesday matinee versus Dallas Christian (3-1). Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
