Women’s Basketball Concludes Calendar Year at Oklahoma Wesleyan

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State women's basketball team (3-10, 0-7 SAC) concluded the 2025 portion of the schedule on Tuesday afternoon with a nonconference road matchup at Oklahoma Wesleyan (6-6, 1-6 KCAC), where it was defeated 66-45.

The Aggies were off and running from the jump of the contest, with Zamari Reece knocking down a three-pointer and Emily Bray finishing a transition layup off a nifty feed from La'Tommas Johnson-Nash. Those buckets gave OPSU a 5-0 lead less than a minute in.

A pair of Reece free throws later in the frame kept Panhandle State's edge at 11-7, but two quick buckets from OKWU put the Eagles on top, and they would not relinquish the lead after the 3:00 minute mark of the first quarter.

Mar'kia Pratt and Bray opened the second period strong with a pair of layups as the Aggies closed their deficit to one, trailing 17-16.

OPSU struggled to find rhythm offensively for long stretches during the middle frames, until Tryssa Dowd scored four points in order near the end of the third quarter. Still, Oklahoma Wesleyan mitigated the threat with a strong close to the third and open to the fourth period that gave the hosts a 20-point advantage.

Morgan Earle had a big fourth quarter for the Aggies, splashing in eight points on 3-of-4 shooting, including two made triples. The Spearman, Texas, native was also active with a pair of steals.

Dowd and Reece finished in double figures with 10 points apiece. Earle's eight points led the Aggies' reserves and marked a career high, while Lexine Johnson had six points and two assists. Brooklyn Aska also contributed with two assists and two steals.

As a team, OPSU committed 11 turnovers, its second lowest total of the season.

What's up next: Panhandle State is off until Jan. 8 when it returns to Sooner Athletic Conference action and continues its current five-game road stretch in Chickasha to take on Science & Arts (8-2, 5-1).
