GOODWELL, OK. – The Oklahoma Panhandle State University softball team secured a decisive victory in the first game of Friday's doubleheader against Sterling College before falling in the second matchup at Jim Quimby Field. The Aggies claimed a 9-4 win in Game 1 but dropped the nightcap 24-5.
Game 1: Aggies Dominate with Explosive Offense
The Aggies wasted no time setting the tone in the opener, scoring twice in the first inning before adding four more runs in the second. Strong performances at the plate led OPSU to a 9-4 victory over the Warriors.
Marin Jacobs earned the win in the circle, going the distance while allowing eight hits and striking out three. Jacobs also contributed with the bat, going a perfect 4-for-4 with a double.
Trinity Higgins and Erin Hornback sparked the Aggies' offense, combining for five runs scored. Haeley Vasquez and Audi Pettaway each drove in three runs, with Vasquez, Pettaway, Melissa Carroll, Jacobs, and Gracie Lankford all recording doubles.
Game 2: Sterling Responds with Offensive Surge
Sterling College bounced back in a big way in Game 2, using a 12-run second inning to fuel a 24-5 victory over OPSU. The Aggies struggled defensively, committing eight errors that proved costly.
Despite the tough outing, Vasquez delivered at the plate, driving in four of the team's five runs. Higgins and Hornback scored twice, while Pettaway added a pair of hits.
Cadence Yocom took the loss, while Rylin Baker also saw action in the circle.
