GOODWELL, OK. — On Sunday afternoon at Jim Quimby Field, the Oklahoma Panhandle State softball team wrapped up its four-game home series against Mid-America Christian University, dropping both contests to the visiting Evangels. The Aggies fell 6-2 in Game 1 and 7-1 in Game 2, moving to 0-4 in the series after the earlier two-game set on Saturday.
Game 1: Mid-America Christian 6, OPSU 2
Mid-America Christian came out swinging in the opening inning, capitalizing on an RBI bunt single from E. Campbell and a sacrifice fly by S. Rodriguez. The Evangels plated three runs in the frame, including a score off a throwing error.
The Aggies responded in the bottom half with two runs of their own. Haeley Vasquez lifted a sacrifice fly to center to bring home Trinity Higgins, and Marin Jacobs followed with an RBI single to left field, scoring Melissa Carroll. That, however, would be the end of the scoring for OPSU, as MACU pitcher G. Reynosa settled in and silenced the Aggie bats the rest of the way. Jacobs led the Aggies offensively, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Higgins added a hit, a run scored, and a stolen base.
Jacobs took the loss in the circle for the Aggies, allowing six runs over seven innings while striking out two.
Game 2: Mid-America Christian 7, OPSU 1
Game two followed a similar script, with the Evangels jumping out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to an RBI single from K. Vizcaya and a double steal that brought M. Chavez home.
MACU added three more runs in the fifth and padded their lead with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings—both unearned due to defensive miscues by the Aggies.
Haeley Vasquez delivered the lone bright spot for the Aggie offense, launching a solo home run over the left-field wall in the bottom of the sixth. The Aggies scattered eight hits in the game, with Trinity Higgins, Kaylynn Du Preez, Marin Jacobs, and Summer Marron each recording one.
Rylin Baker started in the circle for OPSU and suffered the loss. The Aggies also struggled defensively, committing four errors that led to multiple unearned runs.
