Goodwell, OK. – The Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggie softball team performed a dominant Saturday afternoon at Jim Quimby Field, securing back-to-back wins over Texas Wesleyan in a doubleheader. The Aggies shut out the Rams 8-0 in Game 1 and completed a thrilling come-from-behind 7-6 victory in extra innings in Game 2.
Game 1: Aggies Cruise to an 8-0 Shutout Victory
OPSU wasted no time setting the tone, scoring two runs in the first inning. After an error, Trinity Higgins crossed the plate, and Erin Hornback added another run off a sacrifice fly from Marin Jacobs. The Aggies maintained their offensive momentum, adding two more runs in the second inning as Haeley Vasquez delivered a clutch two-run double to center field.
The scoring continued in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, with contributions from multiple Aggie hitters, including Summer Marron and Gracie Lankford. Vasquez capped off her stellar performance with another RBI double in the fifth, bringing in Higgins.
On the defensive side, pitcher Marin Jacobs was dominant in the circle, allowing only four hits while striking out multiple batters to secure the shutout win.
Game 2: Aggies Rally for an Extra-Inning Thriller
Texas Wesleyan jumped out to an early lead, scoring runs in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 advantage. OPSU answered back in the fifth inning when Melissa Carroll doubled to drive in Hornback, cutting the deficit to one.
A pair of errors by Texas Wesleyan in the sixth inning allowed Higgins and Hornback to score, giving OPSU a 3-2 lead. However, the Rams responded with two runs in the seventh inning to regain the lead at 4-3.
In the bottom of the seventh, Jacobs came through in the clutch, smacking a double to center field to bring home Carroll and force extra innings. Texas Wesleyan managed to push two runs across in the eighth, but the Aggies refused to go down quietly. Vasquez walked with the bases loaded to bring in one run, and Carroll delivered a game-tying RBI single. Marron then sealed the win with a walk-off RBI single, bringing home Hornback for the thrilling 7-6 victory.
Jacobs picked up her second win of the day in relief, showcasing her resilience and determination on the mound.
