GOODWELL, OK. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State University softball team came out swinging on Friday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader against Central Christian College to take the first two games in their four-game series. The Aggies exploded for 27 total runs on 25 hits across both contests, highlighting their offensive depth and capitalizing on defensive miscues by the Tigers.
Game One: Aggies Cruise to 10-1 Victory
Behind a complete-game performance from Marin Jacobs in the circle and a relentless offensive push, the Aggies secured a 10-1 run-rule win in five innings. Jacobs improved her season record to 16-8, striking out two and allowing just one unearned run on seven hits.
OPSU opened the scoring in the second inning when Jacobs helped her own cause with an RBI single up the middle. The Aggies added another run after Halle Zupan reached on an error, scoring Jacobs. In the third, an RBI double from Kaylynn Du Preez made it 3-0.
The big blow came in the fourth inning as the Aggies sent 11 batters to the plate and piled on seven runs. Highlights included a sacrifice fly by Gracie Lankford, an RBI single from Trinity Higgins, and a two-RBI single by Leiyah Ayala. OPSU tallied 12 hits, with multi-hit games from Jacobs, Zupan, and Du Preez. Higgins also stole her third base of the season, contributing at the plate and basepaths.
Game Two: Bats Stay Hot in 17-7 Slugfest
Game two became an offensive showcase for OPSU, as the Aggies overwhelmed Central Christian 17-7 in five innings. Haeley Vasquez and Audi Pettaway launched home runs, and Trinity Higgins added another solo shot, powering the team to a dominant win.
Higgins led the charge from the leadoff spot, scoring four runs, collecting two hits, and driving in a run. Vasquez had a monster game, going 3-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBIs, including a three-run homer in the fifth inning. Pettaway's two-run shot in the fourth gave OPSU critical breathing room after the Tigers had cut the deficit to 9-5.
Central Christian tried to keep pace, tallying nine hits and capitalizing on an Aggie error and a key triple by P. Major, but it wasn't enough to slow down the OPSU offense. Rylin Baker picked up the win in the circle, improving to 2-5 on the season.
