Goodwell, OK. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State University softball team came up short in a Wednesday evening doubleheader against the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, dropping both games at Bill Smith Ballpark.
In the opener, the Aggies struggled to get their offense going against a red-hot Drover squad, falling 10-0 in a five-inning contest. USAO struck early, often plating multiple runs in the first four innings. The Aggies were limited to two hits, courtesy of Trinity Higgins and Marin Jacobs, while they committed two defensive errors. Sophomore Rylin Baker took the loss in the circle, moving to 2-6 on the season.
The Drovers opened the scoring with a two-RBI double in the first inning and never looked back. USAO added three runs in the second and third frames, capitalizing on timely hits and defensive miscues. They would tack on two more in the fourth to seal the run-rule victory.
Game two saw a slightly more competitive effort from the Aggies, but the Drovers' offensive firepower continued to shine in a 9-1 victory. Trinity Higgins drove in OPSU's lone run in the third inning with an RBI single that brought home Leiyah Ayala. Kaylynn Du Preez, Mia Cavallini, and Halle Zupan also collected hits for the Aggies in the nightcap.
Despite the improved offensive output, Panhandle State couldn't hold off USAO's 15-hit attack. The Drovers scored three runs in the opening inning and continued to add pressure with runs in the third, fourth, and fifth. Aggie starter Marin Jacobs took the loss after allowing nine runs, five earned, over four innings of work.
