GOODWELL, OK. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggies softball team opened a four-game series against nationally-ranked Oklahoma City University on Thursday afternoon, falling in both contests at Bill Smith Ballpark. The Stars' explosive offense and strong pitching performances handed the Aggies back-to-back shutouts, with final scores of 8-0 in both Game 1 and Game 2.
Game 1:
Despite a promising start, the Aggies could not crack the scoreboard in the opener, tallying just two hits in the six-inning affair. OPSU starter Marin Jacobs pitched into the sixth but was tagged with the loss after Oklahoma City broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning.
OPSU's offense was limited to singles by Melissa Carroll and Gracie Lankford, while Carroll added a double to her stat line. The Aggies were charged with three errors that led to multiple unearned runs.
Game 2:
The Stars wasted no time in the second game, plating four runs in the opening frame. T. Paul set the tone with a leadoff home run, and OCU never looked back, collecting 13 hits in the run-rule victory.
OPSU starter Cadence Yocom took the loss in the circle, as Oklahoma City padded their lead with two more runs in the third and another pair in the fifth.
Offensively, the Aggies managed three hits, including a double from Gracie Lankford and singles by Trinity Higgins and Marin Jacobs. Higgins added a stolen base, but the Aggies couldn't string anything together against OCU's B. Alsip.
Upcoming
