GOODWELL, Okla. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State volleyball team (4-7, 2-2 SAC) notched its highest kill percentage of the season at .313 in a dominant 25-20, 25-5, 25-9 sweep over Southwestern Christian (0-7, 0-4) at home Saturday afternoon.
The win brings the Aggies' home mark to 2-0 following their weekend matches, and it extended their winning streak over the Eagles to 10 matches.
As it did Friday evening, OPSU stumbled out of the gates as it found itself trailing 12-8 in the opening frame. Mistakes from SCU and a barrage of Aggie kills helped the home team rally to gain control of the match, however, ahead 1-0.
Panhandle State got out to a 7-3 lead in the second set when
Nyah Ulmer entered to serve. Ulmer then led the Aggies on a run of 17 consecutive points, including two service aces from the senior.
OPSU never looked back as it controlled the remainder of the match in every facet.
The final totals included a 41-19 advantage for the hosts in kills and a 10-1 advantage in service aces. The Aggies' defense was also stout with 58 digs and eight team blocks, both of which easily bested the Eagles in those respective categories.
Taylore Alsaid led all players in the match with nine kills and five block assists.
Emma Coburn and
Skyla Stark added four and three block assists, respectively, while contributing to OPSU's dominant attack.
Elena Kagiali added seven kills to go with a match-high 15 digs, and
Taylor Silva aided the defense with 14 digs.
At the service line, Ulmer, Kagiali, Coburn and Alsaid each notched multiple aces.
What's up next: Panhandle State begins a three-game road trip on Tuesday, Sept. 16, for a 6 p.m. match at Wayland Baptist (4-4, 3-1 SAC).
