GOODWELL, Okla. — Oklahoma Panhandle State has named women's soccer defender
Celeste Maldonado and football linebacker
Nate Orta as its Aggies of the Week for performances spanning Aug. 25-31.
Maldonado scored the season's first goal following a corner kick, helping the Aggies to a 3-1 win over Southwestern College in its season opener on Aug. 26. OPSU's only goal allowed came on a shallow free kick, as Maldonado proved instrumental in otherwise shutting out the Moundbuilders.
Orta helped fuel the upset win during football's opener, recording eight tackles, a team-high two of which went for a loss. He also made the biggest defensive play of the game, notching a sack that backed up Peru State deep in its own end with five minutes left on the game clock, setting up Panhandle State's game-winning drive.
