GOODWELL, Okla. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State men's soccer team (1-1-1) played to a shutout draw in its home opener Friday in windy, misty conditions against the University of the Southwest (1-1-1).
Goalkeeper
Aron Kanyai stopped seven shots in the match, tying his career high as the junior recorded his first shutout for the Aggies.
While both squads took six shots in the initial 45 minutes of action, OPSU successfully defended five corner kicks.
As the physicality of the match climbed throughout the second half, USW was able to generate three more looks than Panhandle State, but
Gabriel Gonzalez' squad kept its composure and stayed solid defensively.
Calum Murphy and
Othman Gherab recorded two shots apiece to lead the Aggies' chances, while
Til Vaupel and
Pablo Benavides joined them with a shot on goal.
Wbat's up next: Panhandle State continues its nonconference season on the road Wednesday, Sept. 10, in Kansas City, Missouri, to take on Avila University (1-2-0).
