GOODWELL, Okla. —Oklahoma Panhandle State University Athletics has named softball shortstop Cassidy Stanhope and baseball shortstop Genesis Nunez as the Mack's Motorsports Aggies of the Week for their performances spanning Feb. 2-8.
Stanhope, a freshman out of Pampa, Texas, put up some substantial numbers against the Mustangs in Hobbs, New Mexico, this past Friday. In game one of the two-game set she went 2-for-3 with a stolen base while recording a putout and an assist defensively. In the nightcap, Stanhope batted 2-for-4 with a run scored. The freshman is hitting an impressive .357 on the young season with a fielding percentage of .883 at the shortstop position.
Nunez went nuclear this past week with 11 hits, which included two homers, a pair of triples and three doubles in five total games, hitting a remarkable .579 with 12 RBIs in that span. Nunez' week began in a doubleheader at University of the Southwest on Monday, Feb. 2, where he went 3-for-7 with a double, triple and two runs driven in. Fast forward to the weekend, the sophomore shortstop went 8-for-12 in three home games versus York where he filled up the box score with the two homers, two doubles, a triple, 10 RBIs and seven runs scored himself. His biggest swing came in the fourth inning of Saturday's nightcap versus the Panthers, when he launched a grand slam that gave the Aggies a 7-1 lead in an eventual 10-6 victory. Nunez' past week has been nothing short of incredible, and it's been recognized as he also garnered SAC Baseball Player of the Week honors.
