LAS CRUCES, N.M. — It was quite the way for the OPSU Equestrian Team to close out the regular season on Saturday. The Aggies finished fifth overall at their final show, entering 13 classes in the single-day competition Saturday and earning an impressive 11 placings.
Individual Highlights
- Eva Johnson placed 3rd in Open Reining and secured 4th in Open Horsemanship. She moved on to Sunday's regional championship in Open Reining, taking second place to advance to Semifinals in March – her second straight year making it to Semifinals.
- Mitchell Addison-Ullom earned 5th in Open Reining on an extremely tough draw and added a 6th-place finish in Open Horsemanship, also earning him a spot in Sunday's competition.
- Adaelia Wiebe placed 2nd in Beginner Horsemanship.
- Cami Kenny finished 4th in Beginner Horsemanship.
- Sydney Carey captured 3rd in Rookie B Horsemanship.
- Karlee Callahan earned 3rd in Rookie A Horsemanship.
- Nahomy Corral-Olivas secured 2nd in Rookie B Horsemanship.
- Ashlyn Eisenman placed 6th in Rookie B Horsemanship.
- Jolina Demann rounded out the placings with 5th in Rookie B Horsemanship.
Head coach Kacey Ward praised the team's grit and determination shown in the team's last scheduled show.
"I couldn't be more proud of how my kids persevered through tough draws this weekend," Ward said. "We drew middle to bottom end of the horses and they all showed up and made the best of it, still coming out with respectable placings."
What's up next: Johnson moves on to Semifinals on March 21 back in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where she will compete for a spot at Nationals in May.
