GOODWELL, Okla. — Oklahoma Panhandle State University Athletics has named equestrian's Eva Johnson and men's basketball's Mike Carter as the Mack's Motorsports Aggies of the Week from Feb. 16-22.
Johnson has been the cornerstone of Aggie equestrian for the past four years, and this past weekend she continued to prove why when the Aggies traveled south to Las Cruces, New Mexico. Johnson competed in Open Reining, where she qualified on to regionals for the second year in a row. From there, she placed second, which sealed a spot in the semifinals with an opportunity to compete for a spot at Nationals. Johnson's excellence has been more than valuable for the OPSU equestrian, and the senior has given herself a chance to ride off in the sunset in style.
Carter played his last two games as an Aggie with determination and brilliance. The senior guard from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, pieced together two terrific performances that captured every facet of his game. In Thursday night's matchup versus Mid-America Christian, Carter put together a 14-point, eight-rebound, three-assist and two-steal performance shooting both 50% from the field (5-10) and from beyond the arc (3-6). Fast forward to Saturday's Senior Day matchup against Science & Arts, Carter dominated both the paint and the glass, as he recorded 23 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks on 9-10 shooting from the charity stripe. Impressively, Carter's stat line on Saturday led OPSU in each of those categories, making for a career day in his collegiate finale.
