Jared Mayeda

Mayeda enters the 2027 season in his third year as OPSU’s head baseball coach following his promotion going into the 2024-25 academic year. Previously, Mayeda spent five seasons with the Aggies as an assistant baseball coach – including three as the head OPSU cross country coach – and, before that, he was a standout player within Panhandle State’s baseball program.

Head Coaching Highlights at OPSU (Through Two Seasons)
Throughout the 2025 and 2026 seasons, Mayeda’s team and athletes compiled:

  • The program’s first NAIA Ball Player of the Week winner
  • One SAC Offensive Player of the Week
  • *Four CSC Academic All-District Team honorees (*through 2025)
  • 11 NAIA Scholar-Athletes
  • One win over a ranked opponent
  • One SAC Tournament appearance
Mayeda picked up his first collegiate head coaching victory on Jan. 24, 2025, in a 5-3 win over Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and closed his first season strong with an SAC series victory over College of the Ozarks.

In 2026, the Aggies went on an early six-game winning streak (its longest since 2019) and picked up its first win over a ranked opponent (a 4-3 victory over No. 18 Mid-America Christian) since 2021. He coached one player to All-SAC Second Team honors, and that same player was named the program’s first ever NAIA Ball Player of the Week in early February.

Other Coaching Experience
Mayeda spent five seasons from 2019 through 2024 as an assistant baseball coach for OPSU under then-head coach Shawn Joy. Throughout his time as an assistant with the Aggies, he helped coach seven all-conference players, two players to professional contracts, and assisted in leading the 2020 team to a Sooner Athletic Conference Champions of Character Award.

He also spent four seasons from 2022-2025 as the manager for the Liberal Bee Jays, where he guided the team to a 2022 Rocky Mountain League Championship, a 2023 Rocky Mountain League runner-up finish, a runner-up showing at the 2022 NBC World Series, and a quarter-finalist finish at the 2023 NBC World Series.

Playing Career
Mayeda began his playing career at Long Beach City College, where he was an integral part of two South Coast Conference Championship teams, including being named an SCC All-Conference Utility Player in 2017. He then finished his collegiate career at OPSU, helping Aggie baseball to two of their most successful seasons. Mayeda closed his playing career with his name scattered throughout Panhandle State baseball’s all-time record book, ranking third in career batting average, third in single-season hits and fourth in career hits.

Education
Mayeda earned an associate degree from Long Beach City College, his bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma Panhandle State University, and his master’s from East Central University.

Personal
Mayeda was born and raised in Cypress, California, where his love of baseball and the Los Angeles Angels was formed. He currently resides in Goodwell, Oklahoma, and is an active member of the community both personally and with the baseball program.
