Isaiah Carson joined the Men’s Basketball team as the Assistant Coach in the fall of 2019. Carson served as an assistant coach and head JV coach at Southwestern Christian University from 2017 to the summer of 2019, where he previously worked with Head Men’s Basketball Coach Mark Laird.
"I am truly blessed to have Isaiah join our program," says Laird, who worked closely with Carson over two seasons at SCU. "Aside from excelling in the areas of player development and recruiting, he is a loyal and trustworthy person. These are indispensable qualities for me."
Carson spent two years as the Head Coach and Recruiting Director for Combine Academy Prep. Prior to that, he was a Student Assistant and Men's Assistant Basketball Coach at the University of Valley Forge in Phoenixville, Penn. In the summers from 2015 to 2018, Carson would serve as an Assistant Basketball Coach at the Avery Johnson Skills Camp at the University of Alabama.
Carson is motivated by his love for the game and helping young athletes get better both on and off the court. He is on the Board of Directors for the non-profit organization, Young Educated Athletes (YEA)/Team Action, where he is responsible for logistical operations, assisting in organizing camps and clinics, coaching, training and most importantly mentoring youth throughout the year. Carson also does skill development for Compete Elite and trains various professional basketball athletes throughout the off-season.
Laird talks about the type of person Carson is stating, "I witnessed Isaiah's tremendous heart to serve students and his tireless work ethic. We share many of the same values and experiences and I know that he will be instrumental in helping to establish our 'Uncommon Culture' here."
"I give honor to God first for this new chapter and I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Coach Laird," Carson said. "We both share a passion of developing young men both on and off the court in an uncommon way. His vision and his commitment to excellence are things I am very excited to be a part of and I am ready to put some work in, to build a championship culture.
"I'd like to thank Athletic Director Meghan Mulcahy and President Dr. Tim Faltyn for welcoming me. There are such great people here in this community and I am very excited to be a part of the Aggie Family here at OPSU."
Carson received his bachelor of science in human services from Southwestern Christian University in April of 2019. Carson resides in Goodwell.
