Two Wins on the Road for Aggie Volleyball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Chickasha, Okla.—A tri-match hosted by the University of Science and Arts-Oklahoma yielded two wins for the Panhandle State volleyball team, sending the Aggies into a tie for sixth-place in the Sooner Athletic Conference ranks.

The Aggies now hold their best season record noted since joining the NCAA in 2003. With eight wins on the season and a 5-7 record in the SAC, Panhandle is already amidst an historic venture. Tuesday's tri-match added a conference win over USAO 3-1 and a non-conference victory over Randall University 3-0.

A 25-20 win over the Drovers in set one, gave the Aggies an opening edge in the match. USAO came back with a competitive 25-23 victory in set two before Panhandle State handily won the following two sets 25-19 and 25-17.

Outside hitters Summer Middleton and Quiara Pointdexter led on the attack with 13 and 11 kills respectively. Middleton, a junior, marked a double-double with kills and 11 digs in the game; both she and Pointdexter also led the team in points scoring on two service aces each. Setter Julia Ibarra held the game-high in assists with 31 and scored three aces and one kill. Sophomore Kendra Butler tallied ten points on eight kills, one ace and two block assists. McKenna Clement led the game at libero with a total of 30 digs over the four-set stint.

Taking on Randall University in game two, Panhandle State sailed through three sets with solid hitting at .248 percent for the game. The Aggies swept the Saints by scores of 25-15, 25-19 and 25-15. Butler and Middlteon led the Aggies in kills with nine and eight apiece. Pointdexter and Courtney Adams put up points with six kills each, and Butler and Ally Hererra combined for five points off strong serves; Butler was credited with three aces and Hererra with two. Butler also assisted on four blocks to total a game-high of 14 points. Ibarra finished with 29 digs and Clement and Middleton brought up 22 and 16 digs respectively.

Looking to continue their ascent in the conference standings, the Aggies set their sights on their next SAC opponent, traveling to Oklahoma City for a Noon matchup on Saturday, Oct. 21 against Mid-America Christian. The Evangels hold an 8-12 season record and sit just below Panhandle State in the Sooner Athletic Conference charts with a 4-7 league record.
