GOODWELL, Okla. - Panhandle State's volleyball team split a pair of Sooner Athletic Conference matches last weekend, getting itself back into the hunt for a post-season playoff berth. After dropping a 3-0 decision at Mid-America Christian Friday, the Aggies (7-12, 4-8 SAC) bounced back on Saturday to sweep USAO, 3-0.
If the season ended today, Panhandle would own the eighth and final tourney slot. The Aggies are just one game out of sixth pace, however. OPSU can also create some distance for that last spot this Friday when it hosts its nearest pursuer, Langston University, and SAC cellar-dweller Central Christian College.
Versus MACU, Panhandle was defeated by set scores of 25-22, 25-14, 25-19.
Kendra Butler had seven kills and three blocks. Butler hit .333 for the match
Ruth Ard added six blocks, as well. Sydnee Saunder and
Skylar Cleavinger each had five kills. Saunders led OPSU with nine digs and Cleavinger pitched in three solo blocks.
A balanced attack –
Richelle Carroll, Cleavinger, Saunders, and Ard all had five kills – helped OPSU to the victory at USAU. Butler and
Hannah Murray had four kills, apiece.
Ard added another six blocks versus USAO, as did teammate
Mia Moore. Saunders had a team-high 13 digs.
Setter
Keeley Johnston amassed 28 assists for the pair of matches.
