CANYON, Texas – The Oklahoma Panhandle State University Equestrian team participated at the West Texas A&M University Western Competition this past Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 2-3) at the WTAMU Horse Center. The Aggie riders produced several good individual results, in what was the team's last competition until spring.

With five different levels as a part of the Western Horsemanship portion (where experience determines each rider's designation), the competitors are judged on riding an unfamiliar horse with no warm-up. The second portion of competition – Reining – involves more complicated patterns, conducted at a faster pace in transition between disciplines.

For the Aggies over the weekend, Sarah Atha was fourth place both days in thee Rookie A division. In Rookie B, Kassidy Weaver was fourth in Saturday's round, while Jacee Barr was fourth Saturday and second Sunday in the same division.

In Level 1, Makayla Hoffman managed a sixth on Saturday and fourth on Sunday. Grace Goad was third place in Level 1 both days.

Mackenzie Leach competed in "Rookie A" both days, but did not place.

"I am so extremely proud of all of these girls and how well they placed this weekend," OPSU Head Coach Hannah Hammack said. "They all worked hard and rode to the best of their ability, some of them in a higher division than last year! I cannot wait to see how our shows in the spring pan out."
