Aggies salvage series with high scoring game 3 victory over SAGU

WAXAHACHIE, Texas— The Aggies came back for a Game 3 victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God after dropping a double header to the lions on day one of the series in Waxahachie.

Panhandle remained in the lead through all nine innings, tallying 17 hits to SAGU's 12. Both Louis Rodriguez and Jared Mayeda went 2-4 on the day while Rodriguez added a double and a solo homerun and brought in four runs and Mayeda plated a pair for the Aggies on two doubles. Payton Rhodes was 2-5 with 3 RBIs and a double on his two hits while JJ Vaught was hot at the plate going 4-5 with 2 RBIs and a double.

Both teams plated two runs each in the first inning, and traded another pair of runs a piece in the top of the second and bottom of the third to keep the score tied, 4-4. The Aggies kept the momentum going, bringing in a total eight runs through the next three innings to take the score 11-3, but the Lions began to claw their way back to close the gap, scoring six runs in the bottom of the seventh. Nicholas Virdo came to the mound for the Aggies following the Lions' efforts to make a dent in the lead. Virdo kept the Lions at bay for the next two innings, striking out two in the process and the Aggies would take the victory on the day, 12-10.

Starter Corey Ley earned the win for the Aggies, pitching a total six innings, walking three, striking out two and giving up four of the Lions' runs.

The Aggies sit 14-11 on the season and 5-4 in conference. Next weekend they will face another Sooner Athletic Conference matchup as they take on Central Christian (Kan.) at home on Aggie Field over March 22-23. Live stats will be available on opsuaggies.com for those wanting to keep up at home.
